Gourd Bird House
A fun and easy way to make a Bird House
This is a fun and easy fall craft idea using gourds-my
favorite gourd is the swan gourd!
Materials:
- Gourd
- Sand Paper
- Paints...
- Drill with Bits
- Jute
- Matte Spray Varnish
- Black Permanent Marker
- Flat Brush for Basecoat
- Round Brush for detail
- Tack Cloth
- Pencil
Clean and sand lightly a dried gourd - preferably a swan gourd.
Wipe off sanding excess with a dry cloth. Drill or punch 2 small
holes at the top of the gourd large enough to thread jute or
rope. Drill a larger hole at the full end for the bird opening.
Paint a base coat on the gourd with 2 coats of your favorite
color of paint (light yellow is nice) and allow each coat to dry
thoroughly. Draw a favorite design on the gourd - let your
imagination go wild - or paint a simple pattern (or none at
all!).
After the paint has thoroughly dried, spray a matte varnish
on the entire gourd.
Thread jute/rope through the top holes, tie securely, and hang
in your favorite spot - just make sure to hang it where you can
watch the birdies make a new nest!
