Soap Making in Missouri

SOAP MAKING recipes and project ideas

Soap making is a great way to make friends! Not only is soap making a fairly simple procedure - the health benefits of making your own soap is making waves (or bubbles) around the world at an astonishing rate!

Simple 3-Easy Oil Soap Recipe:

This is a wonderfully easy yet elegant soap recipe. You can scent it with your choice of EO's or Fragrance Oils and use what herbs you like best.

Ingredients:
24 ounces Olive Oil
24 ounces Coconut Oil
38 ounces Hydrogenated Soybean Oil (Crisco)

12 ounces Lye
32 ounces Distilled water

3 ounces Sweet Orange Essential Oil (this smells SO GOOD!)
1 ounce Ylang Ylang Essential Oil or Patchouli goes well too

1 teaspoon finely ground chamomile or lavender buds
Instructions:
Follow normal directions in making soap. When oils and lye are at the right temps - around 98 degrees F, add them together.  Bring to light trace - I love my stickblender - and then add your EO's at light trace. Sprinkle in ground herbs of your choice (oatmeal is good too) and stir well. Pour into molds.

If you want to change this recipe to a hot process recipe, bring to trace, then leave in crock pot (set on high) for about an hour. Don't forget to check on crock pot every 15 minutes or so to make sure it doesn't go into the 'volcano' stage. When it reaches the 'Vaseline stage' test it by the tongue test. If it doesn't zap you - its ready! Add your eo's and herbs now and stir as best you can - it will be globby. Then plop into your molds, bang the molds on the counter to get out any air bubbles, smooth over the top, and let rest for 4-8 hours. Unmold cut and USE! (I usually let it rest about a week if I can, however.)

Not sure what all those terms mean? Then check out detailed information on the various instructions for soap making here.
